Islamic Stereotypes
Since 9/11 Muslims are bound to encounter several stereotypes. Many of these are misunderstandings.
Islam's greatest challenge "has been to adopt from the West what is obviously useful, to avoid what is dangerous, and to continue holding on to what it thinks valuable" (Molloy 458). The clip demonstrates that the way the man is dressed automatically makes him Muslim and connects that notion to terrorism. |
Cory in the House: Cultural Traditions
Even though it is not explicitly stated, Meena, one of the leading female characters of the show, displays Islam traditions, such as covering as much skin as possible.
Meena may not wear the hijab, or head covering, but it does not signify she is not Muslim. The hijab is recommended, but does not show a sign of submission. |

Marriage
Culturally, Muslims marriage "is arranged by the parents and formalized by a written contract" (Molloy 424).
El Clon is a Spanish telenovela, or soap opera, in which Jade is being married to Said but she is in love with Lucas. Jade has broken the Muslim standard to remain pure until marriage because she had an adventure with Lucas before marrying Said. Molloy, Michael.
