Reconciliation
Reconciliation (or penance) is when "a repentant person admits his or her sins before a priest and is absolved" (Molloy 387).
The show One Tree Hill bluntly displays reconciliation when Peyton is dared to go into a church and admit a sin. She begins by entering a small cubicle and confessing what has been on her mind to the father. Molloy, Michael. Experiencing the World's Religions: Tradition, Challenge, and Change. Sixth ed. Marriage
Marriage is another sacrament in Christianity "in which two people publicity commit themes levels to each other for life. The two individuals administer the sacrament to each other while the priest or minister simply acts as a public witness of the commitment" (Molloy 387).
The movie 50 First Dates demonstrates the sacrament of marriage when Henry (Adam Sandler) and Lucy (Drew Barrymore) get married and say their vows. Both characters show their commitment and display philia, which is a dispassionate virtuous love, and éros, which is sexual passion love. Both kinds of love are shown when Henry accepts Lucy, even though she has short-term memory. Henry helps her every morning by showing her a video of what her life is like. Molloy, Michael. Forgiveness & Resurrection
Christianity includes the theme of forgiveness and resurrection, which can also fit into the sacrament of reconciliation.
The film Bruce Almighty directly emphasizes Christianity. Bruce (Jim Carrey) is given God's role and powers. Bruce takes advantage of his powers by granting materialistic wishes; Bruce realizes that being materialistic is not solving the worlds problems or his problems other his girlfriend. Bruce asks for forgiveness when he gets hit by a truck and lies his trust in God to save him. Because Bruce wakes up from the accident, it demonstrates Bruce's resurrection. |
Forgiveness, Resurrection, and Redemption
Frozen 's most emotional scene portrays the Christian themes of forgiveness, resurrection, and redemption all at once. Princess Elsa sees Anna as a frozen statue and decides to hug her as forgiveness. Anna begins to melt with Princess Elsa’s warmth meaning Princess Elsa is forgiven and redeemed when Anna is no longer frozen because it is sign of Princess Elsa's resurrection and forgiveness of her actions.
